2023 AGITG ASM Gutsy Challenges

Designed with your visit to the 2023 AGITG ASM in mind, both these 2 amazing treks will finish in Christchurch on Saturday 11th November, just prior to the 2023 AGITG Annual Scientific Meeting taking place.

Hump Ridge Track Challenge 2023

Following in the footsteps of our Gutsy adventurers in 2022, this trek is a spectacular journey along remote beaches, through bush and sub-alpine scenery on the Hump Ridge Track. The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track offers an amazing wilderness walking experience. Located in the south‑west corner of New Zealand’s South Island the track runs through 62km of pristine and unspoiled wilderness. In the company of experienced guides you’ll walk through a diverse range of World Heritage landscapes from sub‑alpine wilderness to sea‑level, including coastal terraces in the unique Waitutu Forest. At the end of each day, relax after a hot shower in the superbly located lodges and enjoy delicious three‑course meals. For the full itinerary, costs, and inclusions click here!

This 4-day trek takes place between November 8th and November 11th, culminating in transfers to Christchurch ahead of the ASM. All funds raised from this Gutsy Challenge will support access to AGITG trials in New Zealand. If you have any questions, please email sue@gutcancer.org.nz or call 0800 112 775.

Once you have registered for the either the Hump Ridge or Southern Alps challenges, we will forward you a link to setup your own online fundraising page which you can share with family and friends to support you with donations. We ask everyone taking part to raise a minimum of $2,000 and with the regular fundraising support and tips along the way, you should exceed the goal. All funds raised will help improve survival rates and outcomes for the 17 New Zealanders a day diagnosed with a gut cancer.

If you have any questions, please email sue@gutcancer.org.nz or call 0800 112 775.

Best of the Southern Alps Challenge 2023

This is the best trek to not feature in any NZ guide book. Packed full of highlights, this stunning tour includes mountain peaks, remote lake and valley systems and the splendour of Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring from high vantage points. This amazing trek starts in style with a gondola ride in Queenstown, followed by a hike through Ben Lomond, where we trek through open tussock flats surrounded by more incredible mountain and lakeland vistas. In Aoraki Mount Cook National Park we spend a day hiking on a ridge overlooking the Hooker Glacier and directly across from the spectacular Mt Sefton with its rumbling avalanches of ice and rock. We end the trip deep in the highland region of Lake Tekapo with the last few nights spent in a private backcountry hut with superb alpine and lakeside vistas and some fabulous trekking before journeying through to Christchurch. For the full itinerary, costs, and inclusions click here!

This 6-day trek takes place between November 6th and November 11th, culminating in transfers to Christchurch ahead of the ASM. All funds raised from this Gutsy Challenge will support access to AGITG trials in New Zealand. If you have any questions, please email sue@gutcancer.org.nz or call 0800 112 775.

In November 2019 our Gutsy team took on the challenge of trekking across New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Walking 70km of the secluded ridges of New Zealand’s mountain range, the team trekked up to 18km a day to complete their challenge.

The team matched their physical feats with an astonishing fundraising effort, raising $35,000 to fund clinical trials, giving New Zealanders access to new treatments faster.

3 of the team discusses their motivation for taking part in the video below:
