Gut Cancer Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Kristin Bernstone as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Kristin has been part of Gut Cancer Foundation for more than four years, most recently as Public Outreach and Projects Manager. During that time, she has worked closely alongside outgoing CEO Liam Willis and has played an integral role in the growth and development of the organisation.
Her work has included leading the redevelopment of Gut Cancer Foundation’s website and patient information hub, national awareness and advocacy campaigns, the development of information and education resources, and key stakeholder engagement with healthcare professionals, cancer organisations and sector partners. Kristin has also been central to the development and launch of Gut Cancer Foundation’s new Support Service for people affected by upper gastrointestinal cancers and their whānau.
Co-Chairs Anna St George and Antony Vriens say Kristin’s appointment provides strong continuity at an important time for the organisation.
“This internal appointment means Gut Cancer Foundation can continue its strategy with momentum. Kristin has been closely involved in shaping and delivering this work, and has demonstrated the commitment, capability and deep understanding of the organisation needed to lead it into its next stage.”
Gut Cancer Foundation is at an exciting point in its development. The launch of its Support Service in May has strengthened the organisation’s role in patient support, education and advocacy, while also creating new opportunities to better understand and respond to the needs of people affected by cancers of the digestive system.
Kristin says she is honoured to take on the role.
“Gut Cancer Foundation has a clear and important purpose: to improve outcomes for people affected by cancers of the digestive system. I am proud of what the organisation has achieved under Liam’s leadership and excited to build on that work.
“I look forward to working with our board, team, partners, clinicians, researchers, donors and community to strengthen our impact, raise our voice, and ensure everyone affected by gut cancers can access the information, support and hope they need.”
The Board would like to sincerely thank Liam Willis for his leadership, passion and commitment during his tenure as CEO. Liam has made a significant contribution to the growth and profile of Gut Cancer Foundation and leaves a strong legacy for the organisation to build on.
Kristin will formally commence as CEO following Liam’s departure on 24 July.
