What is our service?
Gut Cancer Foundation patient support service is a nurse-led, telehealth service to provide support for patients and whānau navigating a diagnosis of an upper gastrointestinal cancer. This includes oesophageal, pancreatic, liver, biliary and stomach cancer

Who is our service for?
We provide support for:

• people diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal cancers (also called upper GI cancers). These include Oesophageal, pancreatic, liver, biliary and stomach cancer

• whānau and family supporting people with upper GI cancers

• people with related conditions or high risk factors for upper GI cancers

• people concerned about upper GI cancer
  

How can we help?
Our nurse can:

• talk to you about symptoms that are concerning you

• help guide you through the early stages of a diagnosis

• suggest questions to ask your care team

• answer any questions about the health system

• support you with ways to deal with symptoms of your cancer and treatment

• provide diet and nutrition support

• highlight additional services based on your needs

• provide resources to help inform you

Please note, we cannot:

• provide clinical advice or

• give a diagnosis or second opinion

• suggest a specific treatment plan

• provide direct financial assistance

• provide psychological support.

How does it work?
You can get in touch with us by:

• filling out a referral form for yourself or your whānau

• emailing us on support@gutcancer.org.nz

• call us on 0800 112 775

You can call any time to speak to a team member during office hours (Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm) and a message service is available after hours.

We will get back to you within 24 hours (during week days) and will schedule in a suitable time for our nurse to call you.
