“I’m Brooke Milne and I live in Hamilton with my fiance of 7.5 years. I have been working for Genesis Energy now for 10.5 years.

On 11th July 2019 my Nana was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which she then also found out it had spread to her liver. She was told that day she had just months to live.

A week later we were told weeks, not months. She was also told it had been there for 3 years undiagnosed!

This disease took her too soon, too fast. On the 16th August 2019 my Nana surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren took her last breath.

I spoke to my Nana about my own journey in the way of weight loss, she was one of my biggest supporters as I underwent weight loss surgery. Nana was always texting or Facebooking me daily, saying how proud she was of me which made me work harder. I was 168kgs at my recorded biggest weight in May 2018..

Since then I’ve strived to do my best.. I decided earlier this year my goal for 2019 was to make it around the 12km Around the Bridges fun walk in November 2019. I’m now sitting at 98kgs That’s 70kgs weightloss!!!

When I signed up for Round The Bridges, I also knew I wanted to fund raise to help others and create more awareness around the nasty disease that took my Nana too soon from me.

My Nana approved and supported my decision to do this, and I know she would be so proud of me making my dreams come true and for fundraising for such and amazing cause”
