Isaia's Story
At just 28 years old, Dunedin firefighter Isaia Piho discovered he carried the CDH1 gene mutation - a hereditary risk for stomach cancer. After the tragic loss of his mother to the disease, Isaia took action.
Genetic testing revealed early cancerous changes, and he made the courageous decision to undergo a gastrectomy - an operation to remove his stomach that ultimately saved his life.
In this video, Isaia and his wife Kelly share their journey - and the message they hope will help others: knowing your whakapapa matters.
